I am an American Baptist minister, a board-certified hospital chaplain, a spiritual director, and mindfulness facilitator.
My husband and I live in Chicago’s northwest side with our two dogs.
While I am deeply rooted in Christian tradition, I work daily with individuals and families across religious traditions, including those who don’t consider themselves a part of any religion or tradition.
I have experienced God’s presence at the communion table, during morning or evening prayer, at a Jewish Shabbat service, during a Buddhist meditation retreat, dancing during pagan rituals, swimming in Lake Michigan, walking the hills on the Camino de Santiago, and in the sacred quiet of a hospital room.
As an American Baptist minister, I am committed to what we call soul freedom. It is the right of every individual to be in a relationship with God or that which they name as Holy without the mediation of clergy or the control of the government.
This means that every person is invited into their own personal and unique relationship with the Divine.
As a gay man, I am also committed to celebrating the Divine image in people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
I approach spirituality through both a body-positive and sex-postive attitude. Our bodies are gifts and embodiment is an important way in which we can connect to the Divine, to others, and to ourselves.
